An early pregnancy scan is commonly performed around 6–9 weeks to confirm the pregnancy location, assess viability and estimate gestational age. Your clinician may recommend different timing for your individual circumstances.

The NT scan is usually performed between 11 and 14 weeks. It provides information that supports early assessment of the baby and, together with other screening, may help evaluate the chance of certain chromosomal conditions.

The detailed anomaly or Level II scan is generally performed around 20–22 weeks to assess the baby's anatomy, growth and development.

A growth scan may be recommended to assess the baby's growth, amniotic fluid and well-being. The need and timing depend on your pregnancy history and clinical assessment.

Fetal echocardiography is a focused ultrasound examination of the baby's heart. It may be advised when additional assessment of heart structure and function is appropriate.

No. Fetal medicine supports routine screening as well as pregnancies that need closer assessment, helping families understand each stage and available care options.
